SENIOR PROJECT
inclusive restaurant
& art exhibition
II Concept
The universal and inclusive design of a cafe restaurant and an interactive art exhibition with a focus on addressing visual impairment will reflect the four seasons. There will be four dining spaces with different menus and an exhibition space that will change based on the guest artist or artists. It can be used as a multipurpose space for events. Guests can choose to visit and experience just the art exhibit by paying an entrance fee. Or they can also choose to dine in one of the four seasons. The goal is to establish a multisensory experience in each space that is relative to its designated season this can be achieved through the use of technology, architectural elements, and design finishes with a focus on wayfinding. The dining experience in the respective areas will focus on elevating common dishes by designing and altering the environment that highlights the flavours and texture of the meal. Each dining space will serve lunch and dinner with their own daily menus. The daily menus will change quarterly. In addition, the menu of the present season will feature a seasonal dish based on which ingredients are at their peak within its location.
The overall design of this hospitality facility will present a contemporary style by limiting the space of too much colour and featuring the architectural and design elements with an emphasis on texture and material by touch, hearing, and scent with a visual contrast using tints and shades of black and white. This addresses the different forms of visual impairment such as color blindness, near/far-sighted, etc. The atmosphere and experience of this restaurant and interactive art exhibition will engage guests to interact with their environment and interact with each other, as it emulates a sense of wonder and discovery.
